The third final out on track would be the Tag 60cc division. This class has week
in and week out been a treat to watch and it was shaping up to be another one of those races.
The field was nicely aligned and the green flag flew on the first attempt and Grant
Vogel took the early advantage followed by Austen Duncan and Gregory Gerst. The front three remained the same until lap three
when Gerst passed Duncan and then set his eyes on the leader. Meanwhile Chris Barngrover had made his way up from 8th
to 5th.
On lap four Gerst was credited with leading the lap, but it didn’t last as
Vogel took it right back on the following lap. Even though they were dueling the top two separated themselves from the rest
of the field and as the top two flashed under the line to take the crossed flags the two karts were less than an inch apart.
On that same lap Barngrover passed Justin Stiffler and Austen Duncan to take the third spot.
Still upfront though the battle waged on just as it had the entire race. As they
approached turn six, or rather the infamous Monza turn, the two karts were very close and in the middle of the corner the
front two touched sending Gregory Gerst up into the air and off the track. Grant Vogel also ended up off the track on the
down slope of the banking. Both drivers were all right, but they were both unable to get back on the track therefore both
were out of the race.
